That’s a Wrap!

Congratulations on a successful season everyone! See the results page for the overall points standings, and have a great summer. See you all in 2017!

2016 Season is Coming Soon!

Hey everyone, we here at School Bike League are excited for our 2016 season!

The website has been updated with confirmed race calendar, waiver forms and all the information you need for a successful race season!

*New this year:  We have altered the race format slightly for 2016 to provide you with more opportunity to up your game and become a [more] wicked rider. Each race day will begin with a coached skills clinic specific to the race for that day. You can race without the clinic or just come out for the clinic. For more details on race day schedules, please refer to the coaches’ manual in the forms section of the website.

Looking forward to seeing you all out this year!!

Final Results are up!

Thanks Kas and Mark for getting the results done so quickly!

Click on the “Current Results” tab above to get the scores from last night, or for the whole season.

Well done everyone! Another inspiring season of competition!

The Grand Finale

Tomorrow: the final event of the season. Come get a preview peek at Bear Mountain’s brand new bike park. (Actually, it’s not even open yet, that’s how special we are … we get the exclusive chance to test it out!) AFD Racing is bringing the airbag, too!

Getting there: The bike park is not at the same location as the cyclocross and xc races. Don’t go as far up the mountain as the Westin/Village. Instead, turn right on Hannington Road. It’s a bit of a distance from the parking area to the bike park so if you aren’t bring a bike (coaches, parents) wear good shoes. See the map:

There will be a pre-race meeting at 4:20 to let you know how things will unfold, and then “racing” at 4:30. We expect the racing to take a bit longer than normal, but it will be worth it because Bear Mountain Resort – Victoria, BC is hosting a BBQ for racers! That will start around 6:30 along with a jumping demo by Peter Savage and Ben Byers. Awards will follow.

Since you will all be working hard, please bring a pot luck item (chips, cookies, fruit, etc) to supplement the BBQ food.

IMPORTANT: this event may have to be postponed if it is raining too much, so watch for updates tomorrow.

Thanks to Oak Bay Bicycles for sponsoring this special wrap up night!

FreeRide ThreeRide

Somehow, we have reached our final event. This Tuesday is our Freeride competition at Bear Mountain Resort (stay tuned for driving directions). There will be jump runs for beginner, intermediate and possiblly advanced. The AFD air bag will be set up, and there may even be a pump-track ready. Bear Mountain has been working hard to build for us! The Jump Park will open for us at 3:00 PM, so come early to get some practice runs in. Oak Bay Bikes will be there to help run, judge, and provide prizes for our racers.

But wait, there’s more! Bear Mountain will be providing a BBQ for you (as well as prizes and their amazing venue).  We will run later than usual (we have the park until 8 PM!) as we will want to eat, do prizes including the Grand Prize Draw, and some end of the year rewards. This will be fun!

Parents: we will have bbq items and some drinks, but if you could bring a pot-luck item (snackie items such as veggies, fruit, chips, cookies, or more drinks would be great). It is still a good idea for your kids to bring a water bottle and some warm clothes for after the competition.

Weather: it’s changing. We may lose our sunshine by Tuesday, and if it rains, we will have to use our rain day on the following Tuesday. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen, but be prepared to come on the 9th instead.

We will post the address and driving directions soon. Please check back. See you on Tuesday!

Track Racing Today!

Velodrome Time! At the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre. Racing starts at 4:30, come early for warm up and to get fitted for a bike. Thanks to sponsor Broad Street Cycles and to host GVVA!

BMX Racing is up Next!

The next SBL Race is Tuesday May 19th at the BMX track at the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre. We have Victoria BMX helping out, giving clinics and running our heats. The race is sponsored by our friends at Goldstream Bicycles and as always, our title sponsor AFD Petroleum.

If you have a BMX bike, bring it out! Most racers will be on their mountain bikes though, and that is fine! You may want to bring long sleeves just in case you take that last corner a bit too fast. And as usual, bring water, snacks and warm clothes for after the race.

Victoria BMX needs the track back by 6:00 PM, so please come out by 4:00 PM, get your warm-up laps done, and be ready to race at 4:30 PM. Many schools have a pro-d day on Tuesday, but not all, so we cannot start earlier. We just don’t want to start later than 4:30 ok? Good!

See you on Tuesday!

Cross Country MTB – Long Loop

Less than 48 hours till the next race! This year is flying by. We are starting the second half of our race season this Tuesday, and we are back to Bear Mountain Resort for the Cross Country Mountain Bike Long Course presented by Sooke Mountain Cycle.

The trail building crew has been hard at work getting things ready for us. Check out this SIMS Facebook Post for more info. Stay tuned for the course layout.

As with last week’s race, try to leave school early and get up the hill before the traffic gets crazy! We will try our best to start the race at 4:30 PM, so get there by 4 to sign in and get your number. Earlier if you wish to pre-ride the course. Looks like the weather should be great, but bring warm clothes, water and snacks for after the race.

See you on the Bear!

Cyclocross on Bear!

The SBL is hosting the cyclocross race this Tuesday, but we’re getting some big time help. Drew MacKenzie (former Single Speed Cyclocross World Champion) is setting up the 1 km course at Bear Mountain Resort – Victoria, BC and we have Performance Bicycles giving away raffle prizes. It’s going to be good!! The course is on the driving range behind the Westin as our handy little map indicates. Racing starts at 4:30 and since traffic from town can be a challenge, consider getting out of school a few minutes early to get a head start.
